About Paul

A 25-year veteran of the Minnesota public relations and communication landscape, Paul is known for handling some of the Midwest’s biggest crisis and critical communication situations. From the 1998 Northwest pilots’ strike to the 35W bridge collapse and from product recalls to corporate restructuring, Paul’s communication skills and strategies have left a lasting impact.

A nationally recognized communications professional, Paul’s expertise is sought by a broad mix of clients from leading corporations to small businesses and non-profits who appreciate his ability to analyze an issue and provide a communication solution.

Paul is a frequent speaker and guest lecturer where his mix of practical experience, storytelling and engaging speaking style make him a conference favorite.

Paul was born and raised in Minneapolis and has long been active in the community both as a volunteer and an elected official. A 1984 graduate of Minneapolis Southwest High School, Paul received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of St. Thomas. Paul has continued his career at St. Thomas where he has been an adjunct professor in the both the undergraduate Communications and Journalism department as well as in the Masters of Business Administration department.

About All Those Initials After Paul’s Name

So, just what is it with all those initials after Paul’s name? Besides being a great conversation starter, there is significance behind the initials.

ABC stands for Accredited Business Communicator. The ABC designation is granted by the International Association of Business Communications (IABC) to experienced communications professionals who undergo rigorous testing and are able to showcase their knowledge, abilities and judgment. ABC’s are required to keep up on the latest trends and techniques and contribute to the communications profession. About ten percent of IABC members globally have attained the ABC accreditation.

APR stands for Accreditation in Public Relations. The APR designation is granted by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) to seasoned public relations practitioners who have showcased their ability to solve communication problems and showcase their knowledge of communication theory and practice. APR’s are required to maintain their APR’s through ongoing contributions to the profession and the community. About ten percent of PRSA members carry APR accreditation.

MBC stands for Masters of Business Communication, a graduate degree in the study of business communication conferred by the University of St. Thomas Graduate School of Business. Paul earned his MBC in 1998 and did his master’s thesis on the power of interpersonal communication in effective organizational change.

Fewer than one percent of communication professionals around the globe carry both an ABC and APR.
